Do not make treasure sleep!

Gartner, American IT company, created the word called not only “Big Data” but also “Dark Data”. “Dark Data” defines accumulated data which is not used despite its value. Especially a lot of companies save unknown data (=“Dark Data”) but they cannot make effective use.

“Dark Data” seems to be golden bugs but it is a kind of treasure at the different point of view. For example, data of movie or museum’s heritage have potential to generate future profits when these data are digitized and analyzed. If these data is flowed to big data analysis, it is possible to make more accurate prediction and judgment. However, the amount of companies’ generating data is extremely huge and large storage capacity is also required for rearrangement, digitization, and creating databases of “Dark Data”.

Therefore, companies need to archive “Dark Data” into storage which is cheap, large capacity, and long term storage such as tape storage in order to turn golden bugs into treasure.
